ChangeCheck helps parents and carers find genuinely family‑ready places. We collect only the information needed to provide the service, keep it secure, and improve it. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Who we are

ChangeCheck (“we”, “us”) operates the ChangeCheck mobile app and website.

Information we collect

• Account data: email address and password (stored as a one‑way hash). Optional profile info you provide (name, avatar).
• Location: used to show “near me” results and improve map accuracy. We do not track your location continuously in the background.
• Camera: used to scan QR codes for verified check‑ins. We do not capture or store photos or video unless you explicitly attach a photo to a submission.
• Submissions: venue check‑ins, ratings, amenity selections, notes, and optional photos you choose to upload.
• Diagnostics: app logs, device and OS information, and crash reports to keep the app reliable.

Waitlist

If you join our waitlist, we collect your name, email, city, and how you heard about us. We use this only to send updates about ChangeCheck (beta access, launch announcements). You can unsubscribe anytime by clicking the link in any email or emailing us at support@changecheckapp.com.

How we use information

• Provide core features: search, maps, check‑ins, and community insights.
• Verify on‑site contributions (QR scans) to keep data trustworthy.
• Keep accounts secure and prevent abuse.
• Understand usage to improve performance and usability.
• Send essential service emails (e.g., password reset). You can opt out of non‑essential emails.

Content moderation

To keep ChangeCheck safe and welcoming, we use automated tools to review user‑generated content before it is published:

• Photo moderation: photos you upload are analysed by Amazon Web Services (AWS) Rekognition to detect inappropriate imagery (e.g., nudity, violence). Only the image data is sent; no personal identifiers are shared. AWS does not retain images after processing.
• Text moderation: text you submit (such as reviews and comments) is checked by OpenAI's moderation service for harmful or abusive content. Only the text is sent; no personal identifiers are shared. OpenAI does not use moderation API inputs for training.

These checks are fully automated and are used solely to enforce our community guidelines. If content is flagged, it may be held for manual review. You will be notified in the app when uploading content that moderation applies.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We use trusted processors to run the service (e.g., cloud hosting, map tiles, and the content moderation services described above). These providers process limited data to deliver the app (such as IP address and device details) under data‑processing agreements.

Retention

Account data and your venue contributions are retained while you have an account. Crash logs and analytics are kept for limited periods. You can request deletion of your account at any time.

Your rights & choices

• Access, update, or delete your account data.
• Control location permissions in your device settings.
• Choose whether to attach photos to submissions.

Children

The app is designed for parents and caregivers and is not directed to children under 13.
